The Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing

The Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing in Warsaw (established in 1996) is a leading scientific research and development unit in Poland (Category "A"). Its statutory task is to provide complex care for people with hearing, voice, speech and balance disorders. The Institute's founding organ is the Minister of Health, Prof. Henryk Skarżyński M.D., Ph.D. is the director of the Institute.

The International Center of Hearing and Speech is one of the most important units of the Institute, the heart of its scientific, educational and clinical activities. It is located in Kajetany, 20 km from the city center. The Institute has subsidiaries and cooperating units in Ciechocinek, Kraków, Łeba, Radom, Katowice, Olsztyn, Rzeszów, Szczecin and Gdańsk.

Besides widespread cooperation with various centers in Poland (AGH University of Science and Technology, Medical University in Warsaw, the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Academy of Special Education in Warsaw, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, Gdańsk University of Technology, Warsaw University of Technology, the EMAG Centre in Katowice, the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology, the Institute of Glass, Ceramics, Fire Resistant and Building Materials in Warsaw, Central Institute for Labour Protection - National Research Institute in Warsaw) the Institute also has extensive and close collaboration network with leading scientific and research centers in the world. PROKSIM, the Center of Excellence "Communication process - Hearing and Speech", functions within the organizational structure of the Institute. Its activities focus on scientific research and development of modern, highly specialized forms of therapy and education related to communication process disorders, particularly for patients using hearing implants.
